This Weekend

This weekend I had some me time. Which was great! I took a short trip down to Atlanta to see Eric Roberson live and I had a blast!!!! I caught up with some great friends and enjoyed myself. I really needed this in order to release some frustrations from the last couple of weeks.

If you have never seen Eric Roberson in person you are missing out. I will definitely be going to see him again if he is in the area....or even just a short road trip away.  I was so excited when he took to the stage.  Here is the only clip I can find of his performance....

Seeing him perform live made me even a bigger fan!

This Weekend

This weekend I went to visit a friend and her husband in Atlanta. It was a much needed getaway and I had a great time....but it made me think of some other issues I am dealing with. Everytime I go to Atlanta I get the urge to move down there, but surprisingly this time I didn't.

Don't get me wrong I had a great time chillin, going out, and hanging out with friends, but this time I asked myself is Atlanta really for me?  We went out for drinks and I met my friend so I had to drive....getting there was fine, getting back...not so fine.  Luckily I had GPS, but it was not the best.  Once I get to the expressway I was good, but navigating all the different interstates really get me confused!!! I did get excited when I did not get lost getting out of Atlanta (last 2 times I went down there I ended up going the wrong direction and having to turn around...not good.

Anyway...while down there I realized I was running away from my problem(s). I was avoiding the obvious and refusing to accept what I have known in my heart all along.  It is so hard for me to let go and express my feelings about people.  I love people and they continue to let me down, but I still give them chance after chance, why do I do this when they continue to hurt me?

One of my friends had an interesting facebook status and I acutally "liked" it...but the more that I thought about it the more it did not sit right with me...The status said:
just because a person doesn't love you the way YOU want them to doesn't mean they don't love you the best way they know how
Now....on the surface this sounds like something great, but if a person loves you the way they want to is that truly love? I mean this statement can justify so many wrongs.   I love someone dearly, but he does not know, or will not show love back...or he is showing the best way he knows how, but that is not enough, because I still feel like he does not care, but it is sad I know he does....

What shall I do???

Family

Assumptions are on hold for now....This past weekend I went to Atlanta to spend some time with some friends and I met some family for the first time. It was a great experience and it made me think about some things. I love my family...the good and the bad.

I have a very interesting family dynamic, but it has helped to mold and make me into the person I am today. Long story short...I was raised by both my mother and father and grew up having and older sister that had cerebral palsy and was in a wheel chair her entire life. I have had extended family from cousins, aunts, uncles, grandmothers, grandfather, and so on.

When you look at this picture this is what is left of my immediate family. My sister died while I was in college...when I tell people they are like awe, but I am like God blessed her to see 23 years old when the doctors said she would not live past 6 months. I love my sister and miss her, but she is in no pain. My father...My parents were married up until my freshman year of college then they got divorced. My father struggled with alcoholism that got bad in my teen years. He eventually died a couple of years ago. It was sudden and a shock, but that is how life is sometimes. Who is left now is my mother and me. We love each other and we have each other's backs through the ups and downs. We are not perfect. We fight, argue, and disagree, but we know how to squash the madness. I love her and she is my biggest supporter.

Back to what inspired this blog...the family I met this weekend was my family on my mother's father's side of the family. I have talked to a couple on the phone over the years and only met one face to face twice my whole life. When I met the family it just made me think about how family is important. Although we had never met before and really did not know each other they welcomed me in with open arms. The meeting was short, but it made me think about my family and how much I love them all. They are not perfect, but they are my family and I love them ALL!!!

Update on life

Today I decided to write for the first time in a while. Life has been busy, but good. I have made some changes in my life. One change is my hair...You have seen the profile picture which is the first cut, which most of my friends say that it was not short at all. Now my hair is....

It has been highlighted and cut short and I love it for now...We will see how long this lasts.

I am ready for the summer and vacations so far. Atlanta and Chicago are on the radar, but if I have time and money I want to add another place. I am so up for suggestions.

Well I have to get back to work. I will be writing more and getting more of my thoughts out in the near future. Life is good and this is only the beginning!!!
